How do I know if I have Generalised Anxiety Disorder?

If you experience symptoms of anxiety most of the time, and you don’t know what is triggering them, then you may be suffering from Generalised Anxiety Disorder. These symptoms include:

  • an accelerated heart rate
  • racing, nervous thoughts
  • feelings of not being in control
  • a heightened sense of danger all around
  • over-stimulation of the senses to respond to the perceived danger.

What causes Generalised Anxiety Disorder?

Unlike a simple phobia where the cause is specific, with Generalised Anxiety Disorder you may not know exactly how it all started.

On the other hand, you may have had a traumatic experience (such as a car accident) a while ago, and the resulting anxiety that you felt around cars could have extended to other things (such as not only driving, but being a passenger, walking along a street, parked cars etc) and snowballed out of control.
